I have worked with DID and dissociative clients for several years now and have had extensive consultation throughout with seasoned professionals. The tools I use are Gestalt parts work, Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experience (DARe),and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I have a little training in Somatic Experiencing as well. My point of view when working with dissociation is not to expect clients to be fully embodied all the time. Rather, I help them grow their ability to be embodied, so they have all options available to them. Dissociating is a powerful survival skill and I never take that away from clients when it has helped them get through perceived or actual life threat. Flashbacks, physical pain, and emotional pain are ubiquitous as they get acquainted with the body again and I can help you feel more confident as you guide clients through this.
